Adventures on the Vaal Dam, South Africa.
Pack your your fishing rod, binocs and sense of adventure and head to the Vaal Dam one of Gauteng’s most popular weekend getaways. With over a 1000-kilometers of shoreline in 3 provinces - Mpumalanga, Gauteng and the Free State - this immense body of water is a world renown fishing and recreational sports destination. It is said that there are more sail boats on the Vaal Dam then the whole South African Coastline. Yacht clubs, marinas, luxury resorts and campsites dot the shoreline. The Gauteng section is quite built up while Mpumalanga’s unspoilt stretch of water is a drawcard for anglers, bird watchers and nature lovers.
Anchor in a secluded spot for a chilled weekend of angling. The Vaal’s rich fish species include plenty of carp, yellow fish, barbel and bass. The list of things to do on the water is endless-from boat cruises to wakeboarding. If a classic highveld thunderstorm hits and you’re not one for taking advantage of the over two-meter-high waves its voracity can whip up, then watch the wildness from the comfort of one of the many bars and restaurants at the waters edge.
