Sani Pass Adventures

The Sani Pass is one of the few passes in Southern Africa between two countries (Lesotho and South Africa) that still requires 4x4 and sometimes during the year even snow chains.  Sani 4x4 trips can be booked with the local adventure operators in the area if you do not own your own 4x4.  The closest town to Sani Pass is Underberg in KwaZulu-Natal and it is only a few hours’ drive from Durban for those of you looking for a quick weekend adventure.  The Sani pass 4x4 tours can certainly be classified as an adventure activity, all you have to do is look down on the remains of the 4x4’s that did not make the trip over into Lesotho successfully. 

Once at the top, stop to have a beer and lunch in the highest pub in southern Africa before making your way back down the steep winding track.  For years now they have been upgrading the road so you better put this on top of your bucket list before the road is tarred and all that will be left of this 4x4 adventure trip is old war stories.  Don’t forget you need an passport to enter Lesotho.
