Karoo Adventures and things to do.
If you want to gaze at the stars, drive on dusty back roads, visit old-time trading stores, soar above the wide open spaces on a paraglider or microlight flight and while the day away on a fly fishing adventure, then the Karoo is calling your name!
The wide open spaces and starry skies of some of the more remote areas of the Karoo offer outdoor living at its best. Here, in the remote hamlet of Sutherland you will find one of the best locations in the world for stargazing. It is the cold climate, cloudless skies and lack of light pollution that ensures that the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) can focus its giant eye on our universe.
Continue northwest to the tiny settlement of de Aar in the Northern Cape where a paragliding adventure above the wide open spaces will leave you with a renewed zest for life. Another taste of the magnificent Karoo skies is found further south, back in the Western Cape, where you can experience the magic of microligth flight, just west of Graaf Reinet, in the town of Murraysburg.
The Karoo continues in the Eastern Cape, where Somerset East provides anglers with world class fishing opportunities.
The mighty Karoo spans several provinces and offers a wide variety of activities. With the driest climate in South Africa it is an outdoor adventurer’s paradise, so head out to the Karoo and get those Boots Dirty!
