African Paddling Association (APA) Operators

African Paddling Association (APA) was formed in 1988 to represent the commercial paddling industry in Southern Africa – guides, operators and other interested parties. Membership is voluntary and all members sign a code of conduct relating to good practice in terms of safety and environmental impact. Members are subject to a disciplinary procedure in the case of complaints. The APA’s main functions are to oversee the training and certification of paddling guides and their swiftwater qualification is internationally benchmarked through the International Rafting Federation (IRF). In addition, they make recommendations regarding safety and good practice and liaise between the industry and the various stakeholders in government, conservation organisations, etc.
