Tugela Canyons – Trail Run

The Tugela Gorge has long held a mystique as a little-explored wild frontier. Our 2–3 night Tugela Trail Run invites you to follow the upper reaches of the mighty Tugela River as it carves through dramatic gorges — along game paths and old jeep tracks — offering a varied and engaging running experience.

Your first night is spent at a remote wild campsite, fully equipped with tents, mattresses, and catering, where the night sky stretches endlessly overhead, untouched by light pollution.

The following day, you continue downstream, joining an expanding network of beautifully built trails originally created for an annual running event. The landscape shifts with every kilometre, revealing fresh perspectives of the river and its rugged surrounds. Along the way, expect memorable wildlife encounters — including the area’s famously relaxed resident giraffes.

The final night (or two) is spent at Tugela Bush Camp, where rustic stone-thatch and canvas lodgings are paired with a few welcome creature comforts. Relax on the deck with a cold beer and enjoy a memorable dinner beneath a canopy of stars.

Additional trail-running routes are available from the camp, before heading home refreshed and re-wilded.
