Northern Traverse: Sentinel to Cathedral Peak

Hiking 71 km along the Drakensberg escarpment ridge, at an average altitude of 3000m, is not a trail for the faint-hearted, but if you after jaw-dropping views, a real sense of wilderness, and a big goal tick – the Northern Traverse is a true bucket list hike. This 5 day/ 4 night escarpment trail runs from Sentinel Peak in the north and comes down at Cathedral Peak (Central Berg) . Along the way, you’ll pass famous landmarks such as Tugela Falls, Madonna and Her Worshippers, Mnweni Pinnacles, Twins Cave, and descending via the legendary Bell Traverse or Mlambonja Valley.

This trail requires a very good level of fitness and endurance, and you will be sleeping in tents or caves. It is led by a professional and highly experienced mountain guide, who together with her chef – will keep you well fed. Porters, to lighten your load, are strongly recommended, and we advise 1.5 porters/per person if you just want to carry your clothes, water & personal items. Porters will then carry your share of the food allocations, your tents, ground mats, cooking equipment and all communal facilities.
