Saddle up for a true Wild Coast odyssey—an 8-day, 7-night horseback journey through one of South Africa’s most untouched shorelines. Created for confident riders who love pace, adventure, and variety, this trail blends unspoilt beaches, rolling green hills, rural Xhosa communities, and dramatic coastal scenery with the comfort of warm hospitality each night.

Every day delivers a new riding challenge and a new sense of wonder. This is where the land feels boundless, the ocean sets the rhythm, and the partnership between horse and rider becomes the heart of the experience.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive at East London Airport and transfer to Kei Mouth Guest Lodge. After a light lunch, change into your riding gear and meet your horse for a short orientation ride. End the day with a relaxed dinner and a comfortable night’s rest.

Day 2

After breakfast, ride down to the Kei River and board the traditional ferry that carries you into the former Transkei. Spend the morning exploring cliffs, quiet beaches, forest paths, and rural landscapes. Enjoy a picnic at a waterfall before continuing to Seagulls Hotel. Unwind, swim, or enjoy a quiet walk before dinner.

Day 3

Wake to the sound of waves before riding about 23 km north to Wavecrest Hotel. Cross open grasslands, river drifts, and long stretches of beach, meeting locals along the way. After lunch, enjoy an optional afternoon ride or choose between spa time, kayaking, or relaxing on the coastline.

Day 4

An early tide-dependent departure takes you on a ±35 km ride to Kob Inn. Expect shifting landscapes—river crossings, open plains, beach canters, and narrow headland paths. Enjoy a simple breakfast en route before arriving at Kob Inn for lunch and a slow, easy afternoon overlooking the wild sea.

Day 5

A more gentle riding day of around 20 km follows beaches, inlets, and quiet coves. Your guide will choose a scenic spot for a saddlebag picnic before returning to Kob Inn for another relaxed coastal evening.

Day 6

Head back south with a lively ±27 km ride to Wavecrest. Cross tidal rivers, canter along empty beaches, and climb inland paths before arriving for an afternoon of leisure—spa, canoeing into mangroves, or simply resting in the quiet coastal setting.

Day 7

Your final full day in the saddle brings a mix of fast beach riding, winding tracks, village paths, and technical coastal sections that reward you with sweeping views. Stop at a coastal hotel for a break before returning to the Kei River ferry. The day ends with a celebratory seafood meal in Kei Mouth.

Day 8

Depending on departure time, enjoy one last short ride before your transfer back to the airport.
