Experience the spectacular Namaqua flower season on this guided 4 day adventure through the Northern Cape’s rugged landscapes. Each day you’ll explore a different venue chosen for peak floral displays, combined with insights into the rich local culture, copper mining history, and the natural beauty of the koppies (small hills). This hike is designed for fit hikers, no beginners, who can walk approximately 12–18 km daily over mixed terrain, elevation of more than 550m per day, including some technical sections involving sandy river beds, rocky paths and boulder hopping.
Itinerary
Day 1
Please make sure you arrive between 2 pm and 4 pm, but please arrive before 4pm. It is 1,5 hours from Springbok.
Welcome and arrival introduction at Nigramoep Slowliving Guest Farm. Drive to Nigramoep’s base camp in the canyon, book in at base camp. Dinner served in marquees tent.
Day 2
Hiking starts from base camp onto an old gravel road between rocky hills adjacent to the canyon, quiver trees waiting for the early rays of sunhine. Hiking from there onto an old jeep track leading you into Casnou se Kloof ravine. Gradual descent surrounded by rock walls, rock pools, wonderful flora and fauna captivating you with its beauty. Casnou se Kloof exits into the canyon. Hike back to base camp.
Day 3
Hiking starts at base camp after breakfast with the luring attraction of the canyon’s mystical beauty calling one to enjoy the ochre rock faces, mini amphitheatre, rock pools, plant life, the majestic black eagle and klipspringer. Return back to base camp after hiking.
Day 4
Hiking starts from base camp onto an old gravel road in a south easterly direction with a gradual incline towards the Nabap ravine. Open vistas showing off the surrounding mountains, klipspringer, the black eagle and Richtersveld type flora with the Schaapriver Canyon beckoning one on the distant northern horizon. Turn onto an old jeep track with babiana’s laipeirousia silenoides, brunsvigia herrei, cyanella orchidiformis and many more painting a pretty picture along the way. A viewpoint stop to enjoy the vista of the beautiful Nabap ravine and the Schaapriver canyon. Hike down into the ravine on an old jeeptrack. Hike next to rock pools, ficus cordata, the Namaqua tree, tylecodon – botterboom into the Nabap valley with striking rock faces to be seen, winding towards the final natrowing portal of the Nabap. The portal is graced with high ochre rock walls and rock pools along the way leading back into the magnificent Schaapriver Canyon. Hike back to the base camp.
Day 5
Hiking starts from base camp onto old gravel road ascending at a relatively steep incline with wonderful views of the canyon from the top, turning onto a jeep track graced with beautiful plant life and flowers, descending into Myn se Kloof ravine another spectacular ravine with rock pools, striking ochre rock walls, fauna and flora. Hiking out of Myn se Kloof into the Schaapriver canyon, back to the base camp. Day five ends at the base camp. Bubbly is served before dinner to celebrate the hike.
*Base camp consists of a marquees tent where breakfast and dinner is served at set tables and lunchpacks provided, as well as a charging station for cellphones etc and a coffee and tea station, hot camp showers and toilets. Fire pit under the stars area. Ribstop canvas sleeping tents with stretchers and mattresses – 2 stretchers and 2 mattresses per tent.
Day 6
Hikers book out of the canyon after breakfast, ending the Nigramoep Slowliving Guest Farm Hike.

- 5 Days and 5 Nights;
- Includes a big tent, where you can stand up, bed/stretcher, and mattresses. The tents and stretched with mattresses are permanently at the base camp
- The glamping-style accommodation in the Canyon consists of dome tents equipped with stretchers and mattresses. There are shared ablutions of flash toilets, showers, a marquee tent, a swimming pool, and beautiful views. The tents are under shade nets. The ground is cement.

- 4 Days hiking with experienced guides born in Namakwa, eager to share their intimate knowledge of the flowers, geography and history of the area;
