4 Day Giants Cup Hike - Southern Drakensberg

The Giants Cup Hiking Trail is a well established and clearly marked trail that runs southwards from Sani Pass in the north to Bushmans Nek in the south, the full trail being approximately 60km in length. It falls within a World Heritage Site and is administered by KZN Wildlife who provide 5 overnight huts along the route.

We offer "luxury hiking" for private parties on the Giants Cup Trail for those who would like to walk the trail without a heavy pack during the day and stay at comfortable lodges with all meals provided at night. Departures are organized for the spring and autumn months (March to October) when the weather is predictable and mostly fine - outside of the summer thunderstorms and cold winters.

Itinerary

We offer various options for the GC trail depending on length of stay and the quality of the accommodation required.

All options though include packed lunch and shuttles to/from the trail each day and overnight stays at either self catering, B&B’s or hotels depending on package requested.

A typical itinerary might be:

Day 1
Self drive to Underberg and overnight with dinner, bed and breakfast (DBB).

Day 2
Collected after breakfast and taken to start of Giants Cup Trail on Sani Pass road. Hike 13km that day to Cobham Reserve. Collect in pm and transfer back to Underberg accommodation for 2nd night (DBB)

Day 3
Transfer back to Cobham to continue trail with long hike of 18km via Umkomazana overnight hut to Drakensberg Gardens Valley.

Day 4
Hike out from Resort via Black Eagle Pass and continue up valley ridge to Drakensberg Gardens resort (approx 11km) where meet up and transfer back to Drakensberg Valley accommodation.

Day 5 (optional)
Start from yesterday’s finish at Garden Castle and hike the beautiful 14km hike through the broad Mzimude valley to Bushmans Nek by-passing Langalibalele Cave and enjoying the wide panorama of the 3000m+ peaks of the Southern berg. Get picked up from Bushmans in early afternoon and taken back to Underberg where your car will have been safely parked.
