Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival at Potberg Hut
Arrive at Potberg Hut in the afternoon, meet your guide, and enjoy a welcome briefing about the trail, its history, and what to expect. Take some time to explore the nearby fynbos before settling into your accommodation. A hearty dinner is served in the evening, giving you a taste of the meals to come.
Day 2 – Potberg to Cupidoskraal Hut (15.5 km)
After breakfast, begin your climb to the Potberg summit at 611 m, rewarded with panoramic views of Swellendam, Cape Infanta, and Cape Agulhas. Look out for the rare Cape vulture soaring overhead. The trail then descends into quieter valleys, with the scent of fynbos in the air. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic lookout before continuing to Cupidoskraal Hut, where a delicious dinner and ocean sounds await.
Day 3 – Cupidoskraal Hut to Noetsie (15.2 km)
Today’s route hugs the coastline, offering constant views of the sea and excellent whale-spotting chances in season. The sound of crashing waves accompanies you as you pass rocky outcrops and pristine beaches. Stop for a packed lunch at a sheltered bay before arriving at Noetsie Hut. Dinner is served at Koppie Alleen, with the evening free for stargazing or simply relaxing with fellow hikers.
Day 4 – Noetsie to Hamerkop Hut (8.5 km)
A shorter day allows for a slower pace through a mosaic of ecosystems, from dune fields to rocky shores. Keep an eye out for shorebirds and marine life in tidal pools. Picnic lunch en route, followed by arrival at Hamerkop Hut. Dinner at the De Hoop accommodations rounds off the day, with time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Day 5 – Hamerkop Hut to Vaalkrans Hut (10.5 km)
This stretch blends rugged cliff paths with gentle beach walks. Pause for lunch at a panoramic point before reaching Vaalkrans Hut, perched above the ocean. The evening is spent enjoying a freshly prepared dinner and taking in the dramatic coastal views.
Day 6 – Vaalkrans Hut to Koppie Alleen (7 km)
Your final morning on the trail begins with breakfast and a leisurely walk along the cliffs to Koppie Alleen. Take time to absorb the last of the scenery before sitting down to a celebratory lunch. Transfers or onward travel can be arranged from here.
