The Namaqua Flower Hike

The Namaqua Flower hike has been developed so that you will experience the best flowers in the area at the time of the hike. We will hike each day at a different venue depending on where the best flowers are at that moment. The distances are do-able for fit beginners, but you must still be able to hike for 14km. The hike is also not just about the hike and flowers but to give you an experience of the real Namakwa people, how the locals live, the history of Namakwa, the beauty of the koppies (small hills), the copper history, the language of the people and so much more.

Fitness Level Requirement
Suitable for FIT beginners, not beginners. Must be able to do some technical sections over rocks and boulders and walking off road through the bush. Must be able to walk for at least 12 km for 3 days.

Hiking Surface
Jeep tracks, single tracks, hiking trail, rocky roads, up-hill, down-hill. Elevation of about 300 m per day.

Day 1
14:00 to 18:00 Meet at Nigramoep Guest Farm, Check in after 3pm and dinner at 18.30

Day 2
08:00 Breakfast
09:00 Hike on Nigramoep.
Hiking on Nigramoep Guest farm, experiencing the beautiful fauna and flora, see the remains of an old copper mine, see the west coast in the distance, learn about the history, stopping for tea, stopping for lunch at a beautiful spot. Terrain today is section where we will walk down a kloof into the Schaapriver Canyon. It is quite technical with boulder hopping, and you have to watch your footing, you will walk though short shrubs that can scratch your legs
19:30 Dinner and freshly baked bread and salad made by us.

Day 3
07:00 Breakfast
08:00 Leave for our next overnight venue, Okiep area, with your own vehicle
10:00 We will go to the best place to hike where we know there is flowers. It might be a single track hiking trail with an elevation of about 300m. It depends on where the flowers are the best. Hiking enjoying the fauna and flora, the history, stopping for tea, stopping for lunch at a beautiful spot. Afterwards we will check in at Okiep Country hotel
18:30 Dinner at Okiep

Day 4
07:00 Breakfast
08:00 Leave for our next hiking venue with your own vehicle
10:00 We will go to a place to hike where we know there are nice flowers. It will be close to the Quiver tree forest. Hiking enjoying the fauna and flora, the history, stopping for tea and lunch on the way.
18:30 Dinner at Okiep Country hotel
