5 Nights Kosi Lakes and Turtle Trails

5 Nights Kosi Lakes and Turtle Trails

Cost:
R10,700 per person for a 5-night trail, based on 6-8 participants.

Embark on our Kosi Lakes and Turtle trails for an immersive journey into one of Southern Africa’s most remote and ecologically diverse regions, designated as a protected World Heritage Site - the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park. The expansive landscape unfolds with miles of unspoiled beaches, untouched dune forests, flourishing coral reefs, mangrove swamps, rare raffia palm forests, and inviting warm temperate seas, creating the perfect backdrop for your exploration and adventure.

Guided hike days, covering distances from 7-14km, provide the opportunity to experience the beauty of this region. You’ll spend your nights in comfortable bush and beach camps, with the convenience of bag transfers and well-prepared meals, allowing you to unwind and embrace the relaxed tempo of this tropical paradise.

From November to March, witness the remarkable sight of giant leatherback and loggerhead turtles making their way up the beach to nest, followed by the awe-inspiring hatching process. It’s a natural phenomenon that adds a unique and unforgettable dimension to your journey.

Step into the realm of these ancient lakes and diverse marine ecosystems, exploring them on foot, by paddle, and with fins, for a truly enriching adventure.

Day 1:
Embark on an exploration of the enchanting swamp forest surrounding Lake Zilonde. Climb a dune for a panoramic view extending to Mozambique. Walk along the golden beach to Kosi mouth, where world-class snorkeling opportunities in protected waters await. Witness the Thonga fish traps, resembling ancient tribal tattoos, and indulge in a paddle in Kalu inlet. Take a boat cruise through the channels to the third lake, enjoying excellent birding, snorkeling, and sightings of hippos along the way.

Day 2:
Transition from the grass and forest pathways of the lakes to the expansive, deserted beaches of the south. Experience a 4x4 transfer to Black Rock and embark on a beach hike to Lala Nek. Enjoy a beach picnic and indulge in more tropical reef snorkeling.

Day 3:
