6 Day Orange River Rafting Safari – Northern Cape

Fom R7200 per adult (2026)

Embark on a transformative 5-night wilderness rafting expedition down the spectacular Orange River in the Northern Cape desert. This authentic and wild camping experience offers a perfect blend of thrilling white-water rapids and peaceful floating stretches, surrounded by breathtaking desert landscapes. Travel with expert river guides who provide delicious meals, safety briefings, and the comforts of ‘travelling’ ablutions. Options are available for those who prefer luxurious accommodation at day’s end. Start and finish in Onseepkans, South Africa — no border hassles required.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival and Red Rock River Camp
Meet your guides at Wild Paradise Riverside Campsite, nestled on the banks of the Orange River. Settle in for the night either camping under the stars or staying in a guesthouse on a nearby farm. Enjoy a hearty meal around the campfire and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Days 2 to 4 – Rafting the Orange River
After a morning safety briefing, start paddling downstream through the rocky wonderland of the Northern Cape. Your trip is fully self-supported; guides carry all camping gear and meals. Experience a mix of fast-flowing channels, gentle rapids, and tranquil floating stretches. Stop for a riverside lunch, swim, fish, or relax with a book during unhurried afternoons. Paddle 4-5 hours each day to your next wilderness campsite. Gather each evening around the campfire under an endless desert sky for stories, stars, and delicious dinners. Highlights include exciting rapids, the dramatic Ritchie Falls portage, and the stunning desert nightscape.

Day 5 – Final Paddle and Return to Camp
Enjoy a relaxed final paddle to the takeout point. Return to Wild Paradise Riverside Campsite for your last night, sharing a farewell fireside evening of laughter and camaraderie.

Day 6 – Departure
After a light breakfast, depart at your leisure, refreshed and inspired by your river journey.

If river levels are too high or too low, the trip will be run on the Thunder Alley section near Hopetown, Northern Cape.
