An Extreme Gift Bucket List for the Real Men This Father’s Day

Being a dad myself, this article is probably more of a wish list than a proper gift guide. I should also mention that I became a father a little later in life, which technically makes me a very old adventurist — but still very keen for just about anything people throw my way.

The reason is simple. Most men secretly love having their egos stroked, and what better way to do that than surviving something slightly dangerous and then being told afterwards how brave and fearless you are? So, to all of you trying to come up with the perfect gift for your dad this Father’s Day, keep that thought in mind and you will probably hit the spot.

Of course, adventure means very different things to different fathers. For some men, it means jumping off a mountain with what basically looks like a tiny wing strapped to their back. For others, the ultimate adventure is heading out to sea on a deep-sea fishing trip with good mates and a cooler box. You also need to consider whether your father is more of a land lover, a water man, or someone who dreams about the skies.

Once you have done your research, let Dirty Boots help you narrow things down a little further. The activities below are some of my personal favourites for dads who still enjoy a proper adrenaline rush and a memorable day outdoors. After all, Father’s Day is one of the few opportunities every year to show your appreciation for all those years of being your personal taxi driver, handyman, coach, braai master, financial advisor, and unofficial life consultant.

So no, this list is not for the faint-hearted. This is adventure territory for the real men out there.

Kloofing

A fantastic day out for fathers who love the outdoors. Climbing through gorges, swimming in crystal-clear mountain pools, and jumping off cliffs into fresh water is guaranteed to make your dad feel twenty years younger — even if his knees disagree the next morning.

Tandem Skydiving

For the truly brave father. There are few gifts that can compete with jumping out of an aircraft at thousands of feet above the ground. The best part? Dad gets all the bragging rights afterwards without needing years of training.

Via Ferrata

Still relatively new in South Africa, but rapidly becoming one of the country’s most exciting outdoor activities. Think mountain climbing mixed with ladders, cables, suspension bridges, and spectacular views. A brilliant choice for adventurous dads.

White Water Rafting

A true classic and always a favourite among fathers. Big rapids, plenty of laughs, and just enough chaos to make everyone feel alive again. It is the perfect combination of adrenaline and outdoor fun.

Unique Driving Experiences

This one is for those who started saving early for Father’s Day. Whether it is a supercar experience, off-road adventure, or performance driving course, there are very few dads who would not appreciate getting behind the wheel of something seriously powerful.

I am not going to suggest too many activities because that just makes your decision harder — and at Dirty Boots we are all about making life easier for you.
