Skydiving in South Africa.
Skydiving was one of the first commercial adventure activities available to the South Africa adventure enthusiasts.
Today there are clubs/drop zones in all the major cities across the country, the three biggest being in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg. Originally commercial jumps were limited to static line jumps however today the tandem free fall jumps are very popular for tourists and first time skydivers. Tandem Skydiving is not only a thrill but a great way to see a major tourist attraction from the air, Table Mountain being a great example.
When booking a Tandem Skydive in South Africa please make sure you are using a reliable and registered drop zone, what you need to look out for is that they belong to the sport association called PASA (Parachute Association of South Africa) This is also the body that controls all the regulations for sport parachuting.
Another option available at most skydiving clubs in South Africa is the AFF – Accelerated Free Fall course. This is a great way to get into the sport quickly, basically you spend some time on the ground learning body position and techniques then your first jump is by yourself but accompanied by two very capable instructors who follow you down until you open your shoot. Bobs your Uncle.
