Marine Dynamics Shark & Whale Tours – Gansbaai
Experience the ultimate marine adventure with Marine Dynamics Shark & Whale Tours in the biodiverse Dyer Island ecosystem. Renowned for offering the Marine Big 5—sharks, whales, dolphins, Cape fur seals, and critically endangered African penguins—this is your chance to witness incredible wildlife in one unforgettable trip.
Gansbaai is known for its diverse species of sharks, including bronze whalers, seven-gill sharks, and the occasional stingray. Shark Cage Diving provides an up-close encounter with these fascinating animals. Bronze whalers are schooling sharks, so guests often experience the thrill of seeing many of them around the boat at once. For those who prefer above-water exploration, the Marine Big 5 Eco Tour takes you to the Cape fur seal colony on Geyser Rock and Dyer Island, where critically endangered African penguins and other seabirds nest. From June to December, Southern Right Whales grace the waters along the Overstrand coast, while Bryde’s whales can be spotted year-round. Dolphins—including common, bottlenose, and the elusive humpback dolphin—also frequent these waters throughout the year.
Marine Dynamics’ luxury custom-built vessels are guided by experienced crews and onboard marine biologists, offering an interactive, educational, and safe experience for all ages. Visitors can also enjoy the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary (APSS), with daily penguin feeding at 3 PM. Entrance is free, and the onsite coffee and curio shop supports the sanctuary’s vital work.
As a Fair Trade Tourism and Blue Flag-certified operator since 2008, Marine Dynamics is committed to responsible tourism, marine conservation, and community upliftment through the Dyer Island Conservation Trust.
