Gansbaai Adventure Activities – A To-Do List of Outdoor Fun
Known as Shark Alley, the channel between Geyser and Dyer Islands, just offshore of the fishing village of Gansbaai on the eastern side of Walker Bay, is probably the best white shark cage diving destination in the world.
The sharks are in the area all year round, but in winter they tend to hang around the islands, making them more predictable and easier to find. Winter is also the best time for whale watching, as southern right whales visit the warm, protected waters of Walker Bay to mate and calve. (Don’t get any ideas of Caribbean-style beaches — Walker Bay is only “warm” compared to Antarctica.)
When you’re not out on the ocean watching big things with fins, Gansbaai has plenty more to offer. Think vibrant fynbos, charming art galleries, cosy coffee shops, local wineries, and even a boutique brewery just down the road.
If outdoor adventure activities are your thing, Gansbaai delivers – both on land and at sea.
