Kosi Forest Lodge – Turtle Tracking Adventures
Nestled within the heart of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park in KwaZulu-Natal, Kosi Forest Lodge offers guests the rare opportunity to witness the magical turtle nesting season. From November to February, our guided turtle tracking excursions take you along pristine, untouched beaches in search of endangered Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles.
Your adventure begins in the late afternoon as you depart the lodge for Bhanga Nek, an hour’s drive away. From there, you’ll set out on foot along the moonlit shoreline, watching for the incredible sight of female turtles hauling themselves ashore to dig nests and lay their eggs. The experience usually concludes around 11 pm, but depending on turtle activity, you may return after midnight. Please note that the walk can be physically demanding, especially for young children, and the excursion proceeds in most weather conditions unless safety is at risk.
While at Kosi Forest Lodge, you can also enjoy a host of other unique activities. Relax in our charming open-air bathrooms set under a lush forest canopy, glide quietly through the waterways on a canoe, or take a scenic boat trip across the Kosi Lake system to the remote Bhanga Nek beach for a tranquil picnic.
This is more than just a holiday – it’s a chance to connect with nature in one of South Africa’s most biodiverse and unspoiled regions.
