Lamberts Bay (or Lambertsbaai) is one of South Africa’s hidden gems. Remove, rugged and arid, this tiny hamlet is far from the average tourist’s maps – and herein lies the appeal for adventurous travellers!
Lamberts Bay is located on the West Coast. Drive approximately 3 hours north from Cape Town on the N7 and take the turn off by Clanwilliam and you’ll feel like you have arrived in a timewarp. Time stands still in Lamberts Bay and this is the main attraction of the place. Beaches are uncrowded – in fact you’ll rarely see people other than a local fisherman and his trusty canine companion. Crayfish are abundant and spring brings a flower of Namaqualand daisies to this otherwise arid coastline.
The area is just waiting to be explored! Take a quad bike and traverse the sandveld, go hiking or get a bird’s eye view from a Microlight. Head into the sea on a scenic boat ride with seals, dolphins or birds as company or don a wetsuit and dive in for a crayfish dinner.
A visit to the West Coast does wonders for renewing your batteries – so leave your watch, cellphone and laptop behind and go for an adventure in Lamberts Bay!
