Geckoing, Tubing & Cliff Jumping on the Sabie River – Extreme Adventure Camp, Hazyview
For anyone who wants their river adventure with an extra kick, Extreme Adventure Camp's geckoing and tubing experience delivers exactly that. Set on the Sabie River just outside Hazyview, this 2.5-hour guided outing combines the free-floating fun of tubing with the hands-on thrill of steering your own "Gecko" — a small, easy-to-manoeuvre raft you paddle and control yourself, no handles required — plus the option to launch off a cliff into the river for good measure.
The session moves at its own rhythm: stretches of calm water for floating, soaking up the scenery and catching your breath, followed by livelier sections where the Gecko comes into its own, letting you dodge rocks, ride small rapids and find your own line down the river. Guides run through safety and technique before you set off, then stay close throughout, so first-timers can relax into it while more confident paddlers push for a bit more speed and spray. Optional cliff jumps add a jolt of pure adrenaline between river sections, and there's a natural bum-slide finish for anyone chasing one last thrill before getting out.
Groups are kept small — generally up to around 10 people — which keeps the guiding personal and means everyone gets proper attention on the water. It's a great fit for friends, couples and adventurous families (the activity suits older children and teens rather than young kids), and works well paired with the camp's other Sabie River activities like white-water rafting for a full day on the water.
Surrounded by the forested banks of one of Mpumalanga's most beautiful rivers, and just minutes from the Panorama Route's famous viewpoints, this is Extreme Adventure Camp at its most playful — equal parts scenery, splash and adrenaline.
