Baviaans Cycle Tour – Guided Mountain Biking in the Eastern Cape

Experience the rugged beauty of South Africa’s Karoo Midlands with the Baviaans Cycle Tour by Baviaans to Bay Adventures. This multi-day guided mountain biking tour takes riders through the Steytlerville District at the foot of the dramatic Baviaanskloof Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Cape Floristic Region. The route traverses jeep tracks, dirt and district roads, and sections of single track, with an optional extension to the breathtaking Grootrivier Poort.

Set against rolling plains, majestic mountains, and lush green valleys, the Baviaans Cycle Tour immerses cyclists in unspoilt landscapes, with stunning sunsets and clear starry skies each evening. Two tour options are available: a 246 km route over 6 days and 5 nights or a 276 km route over 7 days and 6 nights. Accommodation is carefully selected for comfort and authenticity, including Rietfontein Farm Stay, Hadley Farm’s Camper’s Delight, Bucklands, Noorspoort Guest Farm, and Royal Karoo (longer route).

All meals are included, starting with supper on Day 1 and concluding with breakfast on the final day. Riders enjoy water and refreshments en route, along with lunch at each overnight farm. Afternoons are free to relax, hike, or explore the surroundings, while e-bike charging points are available at select farms.

Owner-operator Eric Stewart cycles with the group, supported by a vehicle stocked with water, snacks, and bike spares to ensure a smooth ride. Minimum group size is eight, but individual bookings are welcome and combined into groups.
