Plettenberg Bay - Via Ferrata

It would be hard to find one adventure activity that Plettenberg Bay doesn’t have the perfect natural play-ground for, which is why it is often described as the adventure capital of the garden route. One of the outstanding geological features of this area is the dramatic sandstone ravines and cliffs that cut through the landscape. Sandstone is beautiful rock to climb and now with the aid of a via ferrata- steel ladders, steps and cables anchored to rock- anyone with a head for heights can safely experience the exhilaration of scaling a sheer cliff.
Your world will zoom in like a macro-lens and time will come to a standstill as you start to climb. Extreme mindfulness will kick in, radical ‘being in the moment’ because your mind will empty as you gain height and the only sound you will hear is your own breathing loud in your ears. You will start to notice even the tiniest flecks of lichen on the rock in front of you. Stop and look around. You’re safely harnessed in after all and there’s a magnificent view waiting to welcome you- forest canopy below you, ragged mountain peaks in the distance.
You might even spot a nearby baboon climbing so casually, you’ll start to wonder what all the fuss is about.
