Kloofing Suicide Gorge near Grabouw.
A visit to Suicide Gorge tucked away in the Hottentots-Holland Mountains, South East of Cape Town is an adventure for those wanting to challenge themselves both mentally and physically. It’s a 17-kilometer hike through the tough territory. The kloofing section is only 1.3-kilometers but takes around two hours to complete which indicates the technicality of the route.
There are more than 10 spectacular jumps in the gorge. The highest, 14-meters, is compulsory. Optional jumps of up to 20-meters will tempt the enthusiastic members of the party.
Suicide Gorge is stunningly beautiful, providing adventurers with a real sense of exploration. Every bend in the gorge reveals a new discovery; massive pools glinting in their cliff-bound vaults, plunging waterfalls, and epic natural waterslides. Pretty riverine trees and protected fynbos grow along the course and hang from cracks in the cliffs creating a watery botanical garden.
Suicide Gorge is only a 90-minutes drive from Cape Town. From the apple-farming town of Grabouw, you’ll find the trailhead 11-kilometers along the R321. It is highly advisable to explore Suicide Gorge in the company of a qualified adventure guide with guiding experience in the area.
