uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve and Education Centre

uMngeni Valley is situated 1 km from Howickin KwaZulu-Natal and downstream of the iconic Howick Falls.

Our 900 Hectare Reserve offers panoramic views, diverse walking trails, picnic spots and a variety of wildlife.

We offer a variety of courses and programmes for school groups of all ages including pre-school/foundation phase, Research groups(IRP’s), tertiary groups, as well as adult and corporate groups. These courses may be half, full day or overnight and include anything from environmental education, to leadership and team building.

Accommodation is available; there are 10 semi attached fully equipped self-catering Chalets accommodating 2 people per chalet, 1 family cottage fully equipped open plan that accommodates 6 people and a large rustic camp accommodating up 60 people.

Conferencing and Events:
The Goldfields Centre -a conference facility with dormitory accommodation sleeping 50-80 people, a fully equipped kitchen, (where tasty, value for money meals are prepared) a dining room, and meeting rooms.

Day activities include:
Obstacle Course, Survival/Bush skills, Umgeni Amazing Race, Orienteering, Abseiling, Group Dynamic Activates, Rock hopping and Swimming, nearby Karkloof Canopy Tours or the Nelson Mandela Capture site, Interpretive Trail Activities, Animal tracking and dung identification, Animal homes, Birding, Plant and Animal identification, Scavenger hunts, Artists’ Palettes and “Bok drolspoeg”.

Nocturnal activities:
Night Walk, Star Gazing, Stalk the Lantern, Camp Concert, Caterpillar Lines, Sound Safari, Nocturnal Treasure Hunt, Minute-to-win-it, Mini Olympics and traditional campfire tasty treats such as S’mores and Stokbrood.

Team Building:
For all ages as well as Corporate Groups.

Rock Climbing:
Predominately a single-pitch Sports climbing venue with a few high quality tradlines. Grades are on the higher side varying between low to high 20’s.
