The Maze of the Lost City – Sun City, South Africa
The Maze of the Lost City, located within Sun City Resort in the North West Province, is the largest permanent maze in the Southern Hemisphere. Covering over 2,200 square meters, it is designed to resemble a semi-ruined Mayan city, complete with towering stone walls and intricate pathways that challenge visitors to find their way through.
Accessed via a 100-meter-long suspension bridge from Sun Central, the maze offers spectacular views of the Palace of the Lost City, the Bridge of Time, and the Valley of Waves. Inside, visitors navigate twists, turns, false trails, and dead ends, making the journey both challenging and enchanting. As night falls, the maze is illuminated by flaming torches, creating a mystical atmosphere that enhances the adventure.
Visitors can spend anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour exploring, depending on pace and sense of direction. At the center, guests are rewarded with panoramic views of the resort and can enjoy refreshments at the Maze Lookout or nearby facilities. The maze is suitable for all ages, though children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Operating hours vary seasonally: during summer (September to April), the maze is open daily from 09:00 to 18:00; in winter (May to August), it operates from 10:00 to 17:00. Entry is free for resort residents and day visitors with a valid ticket.
Whether you’re seeking a family outing, a fun challenge, or a unique adventure with friends, the Maze of the Lost City offers an unforgettable experience combining mystery, excitement, and the stunning beauty of Sun City’s surroundings.
