Surfski Paddling in South Africa

For those of you who weren’t luckily enough to grow up next to the coast, surf skiing is basically canoeing on the ocean A surf ski is an enclosed fiberglass kayak, so you sit on top and do not take in water when upside down.  It is skinny and long, so made for speed and not stability.  However these days there is a nice variety of boats of which beginner boats are way more stable.  They are also great for a quick morning paddle with the whales, seals and other marine life and cover a lot more distance than other sea kayaks.  A surf ski can be great fun on small waves allowing you to ride the waves and paddle back out quickly to catch another.  Mostly surf ski are used for ocean races.
