Zip Line in the Karkloof Forest, South Africa.
The Karkloof Forest is only 22-kilometers north of Howick in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. A great way to get access to this special area, usually only available to overnight visitors, is to book a zipline adventure through the forest. Getting up close to these magnificent old arboreal giants, standing on platforms built high up in their canopies surrounded by peaceful forest sounds and whizzing at speed through a dizzying array of green foliage is an experience not to be missed.
Karkloof Forest is part of a highly endangered and fragmented mist-belt grassland and forest region and is protected by the private Karkloof Nature Reserve. It is a stunningly beautiful area with deep forests that provide refuge for the shaggy-coated Samango Monkey and some weird and wonderful birds including the strange-looking long-crested eagle. The forest also provides a habitat for rare forest plants like orchards and clivias, so for the botanically minded, it’s well worth a visit.
