The Baviaans Cycle Tour is a guided mountain biking tour in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
It is a multiday cycle tour in the Steytlerville District, Baviaans Region, Eastern Cape. The route is moderate on jeep track, dirt roads, district roads and some single track, plus the option to cycle to the Grootrivier Poort.
The Baviaans Region is set in the Karoo Midlands, featuring majestic mountains rising from rolling plains, with lush green valleys providing stark contrast. With stunning sunsets and clear, starry nights, the Baviaans offers a taste of life at its unspoilt best. The tour starts 40km southwest of Steytlerville and the entire route lies at the foot of the majestic Baviaanskloof Mountains in the south, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and also one of the eight areas making up the Cape Floristic Region World Heritage Site.
There are two options available, 246km over 6 days and 5 nights, or 276km over 7 days and 6 nights. Accommodation is at Rietfontein Farm Stay, Hadley Farm’s Camper’s Delight, Bucklands, Noorspoort Guest Farm and Royal Karoo for the longer option.
All meals are catered for, starting with supper on day 1, and ending with breakfast on the last day. We will have an honesty bar, to be settled afterwards. At Bucklands and Royal Karoo we will support their own bar.
Breakfast is served at 08h00, and cycling commences at 09h00. Water will be available en route, and lunch will be served at the next farm where we will overnight. We are normally done with cycling around 13h00, and the afternoon is spent relaxing, reading, hiking or playing games. There will be points to charge e-bikes at R50 per night (not included in the rate).
Owner-operator Eric Stewart will be cycling with you and a support vehicle with water and coke, fruit and homemade biscuits (as well as bike spares!) will be within reach of the group the entire time.
Minimum group size is 8 sharing. We can take individual bookings and build a group.
