Northern Cape’s Namakwa 4x4 Eco Trail offers both the challenge and the reward that makes it the ultimate trail for the outdoor enthusiasts and 4x4 driver. The challenge is the rugged Northern Cape’s isolated mountainous semi-desert terrain and testing dunes. The rewards are the driving thrills, the awesome arid scenery, cultural interactions with the locals and riverside camping spots.
The Namakwa 4x4 Eco Trail runs from Pella to Alexander Bay and is divided into two sections that run along the mighty Orange River.
Package 1 | Pella to Vioolsdrift
This part of the Eco Route starts at Pella, then follows the river to Witbank and the legendary Groot Melkhoutboom campsite. This gigantic tree will keep watch over you for this evening before continuing to Goodhouse and the Ramandrift camp on the banks of the Orange River.
Package 2 | Vioolsdrift to Alexander Bay
The second part of the route continues from Vioolsdrift, the gateway to the Richtersveld Botanical and Cultural Landscape, an UNESCO world heritage site. You travel through the iconic towns of Eksteensfontein, Lekkersing, Kuboes and Sandrift before it ends at Alexander Bay where the mighty Orange River meets the Atlantic Ocean.
