Margate Adventures. Always a popular south coast of KwaZulu-Natal destination, Margate continues to attract visitors for its beach holiday, abundant accommodation options, shops restaurants and the variety of activities available. Located 130 kilometres south of Durban on the N2 highway, the town is readily accessible.

Truly soak up the sun and sea when you sign up for surfing lessons. Surfing in the area is good all year round and board and wetsuits can be hired by visiting surfers. Back in the town, make the most of the beaches and warm ocean for swimming and snorkeling too.

Mountain bikers can join other riders on a variety of routes, with distances and difficulties to suit all ages and ability levels. You can also head out on your own on trails that are clearly marked and colour-coded for distance and difficulty. Delight in views of the Indian Ocean and the Mtamvuna River. Bikes are also available for hire.

The Lake Eland Game Reserve is a must-visit. It takes only an hour to drive from Margate to Oribi Gorge, where you can experience an 80-metre long bridge walk. This suspension bridge hangs 130m above the bottom of the gorge! There is also an exhilarating zipline adventure with 14 slides spread over a 4.5-kilometre distance.

The town is busiest during the school vacation periods (especially over Christmas and Easter) and on public holidays. Its tropical climate makes it a great destination throughout the year.
