Cape Town Adventures and Things To Do.
Feted by many as the most beautiful city in the world and certainly, the adventure capital of South Africa, Africa’s southernmost hub is a magnet for travellers, especially outdoor enthusiasts. In fact, the lifestyle in Cape Town is so cool that it’s fast becoming a major tech-startup investment centre with people from all over the world moving into its suburbs.
It's hard to narrow down the things that make Cape Town so attractive. Its bountiful natural heritage has got to have something to do with it! A stunningly beautiful coastline, rugged and dramatic in places, but interspersed with golden beaches, and a mountainous Unesco World Heritage national park right in its midst had visitors flocking to the mother city. It’s not uncommon to spot wildlife in these areas. Commuters living along the False Bay Coast can watch whales frolicking in the bay as they drive to work, beachgoers might stumble across a penguin and hikers regularly spot dassies, baboons and buck. The fascinating and protected vegetation type called fynbos that grows on Table Mountain is celebrated at Kirstenbosch Gardens, a renowned botanical wonderland.
Adventurous people visiting Cape Town will be drawn to explore this super accessible playground – on foot, on a horse, in a kayak, hanging from a rope, on a boat or bike. Cape Town allows those with limited time to pack in their adventures. It’s not unusual to be shark cage diving or snorkelling with seals in the morning and abseiling off Table Mountain or ziplining in the afternoon.
Complementing the natural beauty that enfolds Cape Town is its rich history, social, cultural and political, which can be explored by visiting iconic places like Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27-years and the colourful Bo-Kaap, (once known as the Malay Quarter). City tours will offer insights into the past; drop Below the Surface on a subterranean adventure for a fascinating glimpse into Cape Town’s history or take a carriage drive through the city in order to experience the vibey and cosmopolitan side of South Africa’s bustling capital.
With Covid giving us new guidelines on what we can do, it's never been more important to have accessible outdoor activities. Cape Town offers so much choice!
