The magnificent rock formations and indigenous vegetation of the Magaliesberg Mountains in the North West provide hikers, mountain bikers and other outdoor adventure seekers ample opportunities to pursue a day in the wild. This mountain range extends from Pretoria to Rustenberg and form a natural barrier between the lower lying bushveld and the cooler highveld.

The deep kloofs and ravines provide excellent rock climbing opportunities and after a long day of adventures, cool off in a mountain pool or under a leafy overhead canopy.

A short drive north of Rustenberg, you enter the glitz and glamour capital of the North West, Sun City. Sun City is located near the ancient volcanic mountain, Pilanesberg, This mountain rises from the surrounding plains and is part of the protected Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Wildlife, including the Africa’s Big Five and over 300 species of bird abounds in the plains, so you’ll just need to choose if you want to view them from horse back, a self drive safari, a hot air balloon or on a guided wilderness hiking trail.

The North West province extends to Botswana in the north. To the south, the southern border is the Vaal River. This river, the largest tributary of the Orange, is another water sport enthusiast’s paradise. For a province situated so far from the sea, you get to pick from a surprising amount of excellent water activities!
