Mossel Bay Adventures - What is there to do in Mossel Bay?

Famous for its friendliness, laid back atmosphere and constant holiday feel, Mossel Bay is conveniently located with easy access to many of the attractions of the Garden Route. Blessed with a mild climate and an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, Mossel Bay is a year-round destination for adventure seekers.

Mossel Bay is the historical capital of the Garden Route. Here, in 1488, explorer Bartholomeu Dias landed and found a spring to replenish his water supplies. A visit to the Batolomeu Dias Museum gives insight into both the cultural and natural history of the area. Mossel Bay is also the home of South Africa’s oldest archeological site - the Cape St Blaize Cave, where middens, dating more than 200,000 years, were laid down by Khoisan herders. Exploring both ancient and more recent history is a fascinating activity in Mossel Bay.

Next, it’s time for some adventure activities!

Mossel Bay spreads out along the shores of the warm Indian Ocean. At the tip of the peninsula, surfers enjoy the waves of Inner and Outer Pool.  Hop on a cruise to Mossel Bay Seal Island Reserve for a closer look at the large colony of curious Cape Fur seas or go further out to sea for a deep-sea fishing adventure. Between July and December, it is the breeding season of the southern right whale. Join a whale-watching adventure for a close up and personal view of these extraordinary mammals.

For that extra adrenaline kick, dip beneath the surface for an encounter with a great white shark (shark cage diving) or go further down below for a scuba diving adventure.

Another great way to view the sea life is from above on a zipline or scenic flight. Next, head inland to the fynbos riches of the Outeniqua Mountains for an abseiling or rock climbing adventure.

There is so much to do in Mossel Bay that you are likely to visit this laid back paradise more than once!
