In Cape Town, a tunnel that was built in Jan van Riebeeck's time still exists. The tunnel was used to direct water from a river running off Platteklip Gorge, on Table Mountain, to the early settlement down below. Tours include an above-ground walk of historical-and-cultural interest to the entrance of the well-ventilated and spacious tunnel. It takes 90 minutes to walk through the tunnel.

Children, age 7 and up, and adults will enjoy the underground experience as well as the gumboots and headlamps provided for the tunnel section.
