Using a reputable kayaking operator, who supplies good quality equipment, is highly recommended as the sea is notoriously temperamental here; rogue waves and strong rip tides do sometimes occur. Local operators know exactly when the conditions are right for venturing into the ocean and if they are not, there are wonderful kayaking alternatives.

The sea that calls all things unto her calls me, and I must embark.” Most experienced kayakers will relate to this. The exquisite, pristine 80km of protected coastline of the Tsitsikamma National Park, is a place that all who love ocean activities should experience not only because of its beauty but because of its immense ecological importance. This has long been recognised, making it the oldest marine protected area in South Africa. The Tsitsikamma coastline marks the meeting place of the temperate and subtropical marine environments.
