The Tugela River offers some of the finest white water rafting within South Africa’s borders. Situated in Zululand in northern KwaZulu-Natal, it’s a summer rainfall area so rafting is restricted to the summer months when the river thunders down out of the Drakensberg forming huge grade three, four and five rapids. It’s a wild ride and an adrenaline mainlining route of note. Most trips are overnight but day trips can be arranged.
