The name 'rap jumping' is deceiving because you don't actually jump. Rather, you rappel (descend from a steep height) by means of an anchored rope and your speed is controlled.

Going face-forward is quite different to abseiling, where you sit upright in the harness. Rap jumping is also more daring as you have to walk forwards over the side of the wall and get to watch the ground coming towards you as you descend.
