Kayaking in Tsitsikamma, South Africa.
With a name like ‘Place of much water, which is what Tsitsikamma means, there’s no doubt there’ll be kayaking on the menu. The tea-colored Storms River in the Tsitsikamma National Park is the focus of much of the Kayaking in this section of the Garden Route.
A guided sea kayak trail from the mouth of the Storms River up to the deep, dark, dramatic Storms River Gorge is a great adventure activity that most can manage. The paddling is not too strenuous or technical and all safety gear and kayaks are provided.
The trip starts from the spectacularly beautiful Storms River Mouth, where you are given a gentle push towards the gorge by the small waves of the incoming tide. As the sound of the sea fades and you move further into the gorge you are greeted by the site of massive sandstone walls coming together to form a narrow rock channel. High above you, the bright blue sky is the only reminder that there is another world out there.
