Horse Riding in Tshwane, Gauteng.
This month Dirty Boot’s brings Tshwane’s horse riding experiences into focus, inspired by the Basotho ponies that we see here in the Drakensberg where we’re busy hosting the Dirty Boots 2024 Adventure Summit.
Horse riding is an activity that has always been associated with adventure, freedom and exploration. More recently, much has been made of the other more subtle benefits of riding. The human-animal interaction promotes wellbeing. Horses are seen as therapeutic and are used in treatment for anxiety as well as ADHD. Riding is also good exercise, even though it might seem like the horse is doing most of the work. These are just added extra’s in what is a wonderfully fun family experience in the great outdoors. An outride on well behaved horses from well-equipped stables is something everyone should try, and Tshwane has a thriving equestrian scene.
Saddle Creek Adventures, as it’s name suggests, offers bush trail outrides for all levels of experience from complete beginner to skilled riders. That’s one of the advantages of horse riding as an activity…it really can cater to a broad range of ability with different horses to suit the different abilities. This makes it a perfectly inclusive group or family adventure. Saddle Creek Adventures is in Hekpoort, just over an hour’s drive from Tshwane and hosts many other fun activities for a great day out. You’ll also be close to the Magaliesberg so make it a weekend and explore more of this beautifully scenic area.
Closer to Tshwane is Adventure Zone Cullinan, in Muningi Gorge. Their memorable outrides include a romantic full moon option where many an engagement or other special milestone moment has been celebrated. Adventure Zone’s attentive riding guides take participants to all the most scenic spots in this uniquely beautiful area for great photo opportunities of ‘man and beast’.
Or head to Harties Horse Trail Safari’s near Hartbeespoort, also only an hour from Tshwane. Set in the stunning Silkaatsnek Nature Reserve, they give riders the chance to experience safari on horseback, a unique perspective and one that allows you to get far closer to the animals. They have a variety of exciting outride packages including private sunset horse riding safari’s and surprise on-trail picnics.
Our horse riding operators provide all necessary safety gear as well as expertly-trained and qualified horse riding guides (and horses!) Spending a couple of hours with these magnificent animals in Gauteng’s nature spots will be like a winter tonic for the whole family.
