Horse riding is an activity that has always been associated with adventure, freedom and exploration. More recently, much has been made of the other more subtle benefits of riding. The human-animal interaction promotes wellbeing. Horses are seen as therapeutic and are used in treatment for anxiety as well as ADHD. Riding is also good exercise, even though it might seem like the horse is doing most of the work. These are just added extra’s in what is a wonderfully fun family experience in the great outdoors. An outride on well behaved horses from well-equipped stables is something everyone should try, and Tshwane has a thriving equestrian scene.
Saddle Creek Adventures, as it’s name suggests, offers bush trail outrides for all levels of experience from complete beginner to skilled riders. Or head to Harties Horse Trail Safari’s near Hartbeespoort, also only an hour from Tshwane. Set in the stunning Silkaatsnek Nature Reserve, they give riders the chance to experience safari on horseback, a unique perspective and one that allows you to get far closer to the animals. They have a variety of exciting outride packages including private sunset horse riding safari’s and surprise on-trail picnics.
