Valley. Mountains. Wilderness reserves. Rural fruit orchards and vineyards... No visit to the historic town of Tulbagh is complete without taking one of the many walking routes available to enjoy fine views, walking through wildflowers and drinking straight from clear mountain streams.
Short walks allow children, the elderly and the unfit the opportunity to experience the natural treasures of the area. Look out for small antelope and birds and be sure to visit between mid-September and mid-October to see the widest variety of wildflowers in bloom. Longer routes take hikers past more interesting sites and higher into the mountains where panoramic views are the reward.
A guided two-day hike goes to the top of Saronsberg Mountain. The tour includes two days of hiking (six hours and four hours on Day 1 and Day 2 respectively), meals, accommodation, wine tasting and an overnight stay with catered dinner on top of the mountain.
Only a 90-minute drive from Cape Town, Tulbagh is a delightful, history and activity-rich town.
