Hiking in Cullinan, South Africa.

The quaint mining town of Cullinan is a short drive from a rocky red landscape called Muningi Gorge. One can only be grateful that no diamonds were found there, and that this little hiking paradise is still intact and offers many lightly peopled hiking opportunities. The trails criss-cross the river and bound over unusually weathered rocks and gulley’s offering technical and adventurous routes for keen hikers. The hikes are short-the longest is 8-kilometers so while you don’t have to be an endurance athlete to hike here, you do need to be agile on your feet.

Those who hike for the surprises that nature always offers like the sudden splash of colour of a rare flower, or some interesting animal scat or an unusual tree growing tortuously out of a rock, will love these trails. The biggest treat on a hot day is the discovery of swimming holes for a cooling dip.
