Helicopter flights are fun at anytime, but a scenic ‘heli flip’ over Mpumalanga’s Blyde River Canyon near Nelspruit is the ultimate free-spirited adventure and one of those once-in-a-lifetime sights that imprints into the mind forever!
Feel on top of the world as you witness one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in South Africa. The magnificent Blyde River Canyon, part of the renowned Panorama Route, is a favourite road journey amongst international visitors and South African’s alike. The canyon’s deep gorges, soaring peaks and tumbling waterfalls are part of eastern Mpumalanga’s Drakensberg escarpment which forms part of the Great Escarpment of Southern Africa, stretching in a gigantic smiling arc around the bottom of the country.
The only way to really do this part of Mpumalanga justice, however, is from the air. Unlike a fixed wing aircraft helicopters can maneuver in all directions and hover, perfect for viewing waterfalls from unique viewpoints and brilliant photographic opportunities. A scenic helicopter flight from Nelspruit will also have you whizzing over the Blydepoort Dam, a number of waterfalls including Mac Mac Falls, the Three Rondavels and God’s Window.
