Gorge Swing in Graskop, South Africa.
Graskop in Mpumalanga is no stranger to adventure. The area’s history is full of pioneering and daring. Up until recently there were still a few maverick characters around, digging for gold in old gold workings. Now the cries of fear and exhilaration are no longer related to the discovery (or not) of tiny shiny rocks. Contemporary adventure activities have taken the place of risky escapades of bygone eras and Graskop adventure tourism offerings are burgeoning.
A gorge swing across the Graskop Gorge will certainly give the daredevils amongst us some relief from the ordinary. You’ll be part of a massive pendulum, starting with a 70-meter freefall. Leaping off the platform (safely harnessed in and under careful supervision) is the scariest part. It just goes against all instincts. Once you’ve achieved that and your body is filling with feel-good hormones you can relax and enjoy the swing and the spectacular views of the Graskop Gorge and waterfall.
