River Boarding in South Africa - Adventure Activities.
We, more venturesome humans are forever on the look out for the next adventure, scanning the landscapes for potential natural playgrounds. Places to leap from, fly from, skim across, paddle down; cliffs, gorges, lakes and rivers. Someone must have once looked at a churning river and thought “why let a good rapid go to waste” and river boarding was born! New Zealand and the US seem to have the monopoly on river boarding right now, but South Africa is fast catching up. With our many high-volume rivers and good water quality, we have some great river boarding destinations.
As long as you possess good swimming skills and a head for adventure, you can give this sport a go. It is a true river immersion. After a short instruction session on the basic do’s and don’ts of river boarding, you’ll put on your wetsuit, helmet, life jacket and fins for propulsion and, holding tightly onto your very buoyant river board, you’ll become one with a moving body of water, stopping at appropriate rapids to surf the rapid-generated waves.
