Dirty Boots, South Africa’s online home of adventures, features over 4000 pages of exciting activities for locals and tourists alike. Being adventure specialists we’d like to introduce you to the often overlooked sport of archery. Reaching back to the late palaeolithic period of human existence, this ancient sport is now available in Tshwane at two great venues; Adventure Zone Cullinan and Saddle Creek Adventures. Both of these locations are top adventure destinations offering an exciting range of activities, facilitated experiences and customised functions for any occasion.
Although anyone can have a once off archery experience, enjoying an hour or two of fun, it is way more than just an ‘adventure activity’. It’s an ongoing practice and much of the satisfaction of this Olympic sport is in honing your skill. Once you’ve tried your hand at it, there’s a good chance you’ll be back for more. Both of Tshwane’s venues for archery are reached in under an hour from Pretoria.
Adventure Zone Cullinan, a premier destination for adventure enthusiasts with over 16 amazing activities, is set in the stunning natural surroundings of the Muningi Gorge, a destination in itself with mountain walks and river trails. Their archery offering is gaining in popularity and is a top activity for team building, parties and special events. Skilled archery instructors will have participants handling their recurve bows like a pro in no time. Games like archery tag and archer-of-the-day introduce some fun competitiveness into the practice and then suddenly you’re hooked!
A 45-minute drive from Tshwane in the direction of the beautiful Magaliesberg Mountains will get you to the Hekpoort Valley. This is the home of Saddle Creek Adventures who also offer archery lessons and fun archery sessions under the watchful eye of excellent facilitators. Make a full day of it, or even a weekend, with a whole range of other exciting activities on offer in a peaceful bushveld environment.
Although archery is well suited to team building and corporate events, it is also a fantastic family activity. Children from 8 up can participate safely. The practice is a great confidence booster and can improve focus and concentration as well as getting kids outdoors and active.
