For a completely different experience, head to the Shongweni Dam and Game Reserve. Only a half-hour drive from the city, it is well known for its game, trails and kayaking. Abseiling is a popular activity but instead of descending a rocky cliff, you abseil down the dam wall.

Abseiling is safe and child-friendly but be sure to check with operators on their age restrictions if travelling with children.
