If you’ve never had the experience of driving a 4x4 on genuinely rugged land, this is your chance. It’s one experience you can’t leave Africa without trying. Not far from the city of Cape Town, about 30 minutes up the West Coast, the snowy white wind sculptured Atlantis Dunes, provides the optimal environment to partake of the bumpy joys of 4x4ing. Experienced driving instructors will take you through your paces, giving advice on manoeuvres. You can choose to drive your own vehicle or take charge of a Willy’s military jeep, so tough they were used by the Americans in the second world war. The difficulty level of your route is up to you and, with your instructors go-ahead, you can gun-it over high dunes heading into the sun, or take a more mellow cruise on forest or mountain tracks.
