From forests to rugged coast, beach, hilltops and mountains, South Africa is a trail runner's dream destination. There are networks of trail on private and public properties, through nature reserves and parks that visitors and locals can enjoy year-round. Whether you favour distances short or long, there are many options in every region.
Being in sunny South Africa, remember to apply sunblock before you head out and be sure to wear a cap and shades for additional sun protection. Take along your hydration pack and snacks and remember to stow all wrappers in a secure pouch so that they do not litter the trails by mistake.
Not all trail routes are dog friendly so be sure to check in advance. If you do take your dog along, ensure that you have adequate water, a bowl and snacks for your faithful running companion.
Not all trails have entry fees, like those in public parks. Venues offering accommodation may charge day visitors a trail access fee but will usually include trail entry in their overnight rates.
When you pack your bags for travel to South Africa, remember to include your trail running kit. There are sure to be magnificent routes everywhere you visit.
