In the Drakensberg, popular slackpacking trails include hikes to the Amphitheatre and Giants Cup. Another popular route is the Mont-aux-Sources Hike. Highlights along this hike include the chain ladder at the Sentinel and standing at the top of the Tugela Falls.

Slackpacking at Kosi Bay in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park offers hikers the opportunity to hike along deserted beaches, traverse lakes, snorkel in a natural aquarium and watch local fishermen spear mullets in their traditional fish kraals. If you are here between November and March you can watch as loggerhead turtles waddle ashore to lay their eggs.
