The region has nine 18-hole golf courses, some of which have been designed by famous golfing greats, and all of which are sure to be enjoyed by golfing enthusiasts. Further inland there are a number of nature reserves, which offer 14 birding routes that are perfect for the avid ornithologist.
Inland from the coast the landscape becomes rugged and mountainous, with gorges and rivers that create spectacular natural vistas. Mountain trails meander through indigenous trees and are perfect for hiking and 4x4 off-road expeditions. Alternatively you could follow these trails with extreme adventure operators who will aid you in abseiling down a sheer cliff, or white water rafting through treacherous rapids. The Umzimkulwana River features areas of black-water rafting where the rapids are graded three, for maximum thrills and excitement. The South Coast is also home to the worlds highest gorge swing, Oribi Gorge, which swings alongside a waterfall.
